31 Days of Gratitude

I challenge you and myself starting August 1 through August 31 share and acknowledge one of the perceived challenges along with what you are grateful for and share it.

Hey everyone,

I know we all have daily challenges that we go through, however in the midst of those difficult times we all have all something or someone to grateful for. I challenge you and myself starting August 1 through August 31 share and acknowledge one of the perceived challenges along with what you are grateful for and share it.

One example for me would be

"I may not be the best cook in the world however I am grateful that my children never go to bed hungry #dailygratitude#savorthemoments"

Let share this attitude of gratitude and see how fortunate we really are. We all may not have what we want but most of us have what we need and then some. We face challenges each and every day, how do we allow them to affect our lives Be grateful and savor the moments.

A literary celebration for kids in Mt. Airy

"Starting in the morning, Roxborough resident and author Yanatha Desouvre along with his daughter, Reanna, talked about the children’s book they made together about the relationship between sisters."

"Starting in the morning, Roxborough resident and author Yanatha Desouvre along with his daughter, Reanna, talked about the children’s book they made together about the relationship between sisters."

After finishing up their set of rehearsed music, the musicians of Broadway Rox Philly crowded around the music sheet to sing from a book of kid songs they had lying around.

The small group was partaking in a literary-themed mini-festival at the Big Blue Marble Bookstore in Mt. Airy. The all-day event had various authors speaking and intermediate mini-concerts by the local musical group.

They performed songs from movies like "Aladdin" to the more recent "Frozen." One of the group’s founders, Ryan Tygh, said this was a new genre and crowd for them, having typically performed for adults.

“It’s kind of like rehearsal but more fun,” Tygh said.

Starting in the morning, Roxborough resident and author Yanatha Desouvre along with his daughter, Reanna, talked about the children’s book they made together about the relationship between sisters.

Author Jennifer Hansen later showed how the paintings in her children’s book were modeled off of her daughter’s facial expressions.

The author team, D.B Wales, concluded the day by discussing their fantasy book titled “Annwyn and the Owl King."

Father writes book with unlikely author By Bobbi Booker The Philadelphia Tribune

Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Yanatha Desouvre is a bestselling author whose first name is Hebrew for “Moses” and his last, French for “river.” As the middle child of five, Desouvre grew up in Brooklyn and Philadelphia and learned early on the value of education. Today, he is a father of two daughters, and is expecting a third child this summer. His wife and him have decided to now know their latest child’s gender until birth.

It was the birth of the couple’s second daughter — and the hundreds of pictures they took — that spurred the idea of a children’s book written from an older sibling’s perspective. With just a few words, four-and-a-half-year-old authoress Reanna Desouvre expressed the deep love that is felt between sisters in her first book entitled, “Big Sister, Little Sister” (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, $9.99).

With just a few words, four-and-a-half-year-old authoress Reanna Desouvre expressed the deep love that is felt between sisters in her first book entitled, “Big Sister, Little Sister” (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, $9.99).

“Big Sister, Little Sister” came about from December 2011 to March 2013, when I was compiling a bunch of pictures. I was sitting on my MacBook Pro, Reanna was sitting with me and with each picture she dictated the story,” said Desouvre. “From the first picture at birth to a day in the park, I type out everything she told me. And, it was fun.”

The author’s efforts for children’s literacy is further encouraged by LeVar Burton’s current Kickstarter campaign to bring Reading Rainbow’s expansive digital library to schools for free. Like Burton, Desourve hopes to help more children embrace the power of books, as 1 in 4 children in America grow up without learning how to read.

“My parents were always about education, both formal and informal education in Haiti and the United States,” he said. “My grandfather told my mother that education is something that can never, ever be taken away from you. Money can be taken away from you, but knowledge and information cannot be taken away at all. One of the things that we did with (our oldest child) Reanna was started in a Montessori program because everything is a teachable moment and reenforces what we teach at home.”

In addition to his constant writing and continued studies, Desouvre is a seasoned IT professional who has created several successful mobile apps for iOS devices such as the iPad, iPhone and iPod touches app and Android devices. They are: “Pre-K Math,” “Proud to be Haitian,” “Proud to be Jewish,” “Kids Eat Free HD,” “Pocket Poetry” and “i love my dog.”

Last year, Desouvre was part of WURD Summer of Freedom Tour 2013 and earlier performed at the World Cafe Live in Saul Williams “Chorus” Spoken Word World Tour in September 2012. His theme of “Positively Impacting Your Life by Empowering Others” was the core message in his National Poetry Month Workshop tour at The West Palm Beach, Delray Beach and Boynton Beach City Libraries in 2011, and he recently hosted the Poet Cafe workshop for the West Palm Beach Library community to participate in the end of the Adult Summer Reading Program. In the past three years he’s been hand selected to perform at three major Spoken Word Poetry Showcases that featured the best Spoken Word Poets of Florida. He’s also the co-executive producer of the album that successfully blends hip-hop, rock, R&B, soul and the art of spoken word poetry entitled “JuSill Presents: Street Poetry hosted by Cierra the Midday Goddess” available through the Apple iTunes store.

About Savor the Moments: Inspired by True Stories

Now, in his most emotionally powerful collection of stories yet, Desouvre takes us around the world with engaging short stories that encourage us all to … Savor the Moments.

In Yanatha Desouvre’s Savor the Moments, “Goodman’s gift, which is also the author’s, is his ability to be uplifting … his hopefulness is undeniably contagious; his empathy is admirable; his interest in the ordinary is extraordinary.”

(from the foreword by best-selling author and historian Robert Watson, Ph.D.)

We face obstacles each and every day, but the question is—how do we allow these challenges to affect our lives? In this collection of 11 timeless short stories, we meet Grayson Goodman, a traveling businessman, who encounters people dealing with challenging situations in life that are no different than our own. Discover how they cope with the unexpectedly difficult circumstances they face and how Goodman touches their lives with words that ring with simple, honest clarity.

Goodman introduces us to an executive in Miami, Fla., facing difficult economic times and yet striving to keep her company intact; a world-renowned, frustrated artist in Cayenne, French Guiana, whose music is leaked to the public before his album was completed; a young mother of four in Philadelphia, Pa., who lost her husband in the war, and many others. As we share in his conversations, we travel with Goodman on his warm-hearted and inspiring journey to different establishments throughout the world as he searches to find the answers to the difficult questions we all face. Savor the Moments: Inspired by True Stories includes stories about love, loss, compassion, and, ultimately, the most powerful force in all of our lives—hope.

Best-selling author and poet Yanatha Desouvre continues to bring us the intensely personal stories with universal life themes that he’s provided in Walk Through this Journey: Volume One; Walk Through this Journey Volume Two: The Next Step Forward; A Family Affair and Big Sister, Little Sister. Now, in his most emotionally powerful collection of stories yet, Desouvre takes us around the world with engaging short stories that encourage us all to … Savor the Moments.
